Start Your Own Business!

posted by admin in Uncategorized

A year ago, the words “starting your own business” were terrifying and usually accompanied, in a person’s mind, by that famous music from JAWS. Now, they are, let’s be honest, almost as scary: people are just getting back on their feet, finding their way financially, so surely it’s madness to start thinking about breaking away from the pack and going it alone?
But hang on. Just calm down a second; take a deep breathe. It isn’t madness. In fact, according to a lot of experts, starting your own business is the way forward to a brighter future. For an audio-visual example of this, please have a look at the link and watch the video:

For my reasons about why starting your own business is good, read on:
1) Want to be in charge of your own money and watch daytime TV? Go ahead! Nobody’s going to stand in your way!
2) Want to take Friday off? No problem. But be prepared to work a day or two on the weekend to make up for it.
3) One big advantage of starting your own business is, of course, being able to do things how YOU see fit. Yes, you will have to take the consequences of your actions, but providing you start off on a sound footing then there is no reason to be worried. That said, it isn’t all fun and games.
Yes, there are negatives and things to look out for. Here are several:
1) You will be responsible for your own tax, so be sure to sort this out – including your national insurance contributions – as soon as you start trading.
2) Never start a business unless you DO really know about what you are doing! This is probably the key point. Research is key; you’re likely to be successful if people know you as someone who is trustworthy.

Bodacious Business Meeting Advice

posted by admin in Uncategorized

This is not a boring article about the price of red diesel, or how to put up shelves from IKEA. No, this here is an article about how to look good in meetings: for best results. I learned these advice tips from a psychologist friend of mine. They work, they’re good, enough said.
1) No white socks! You may think that all the meeting action goes on above table level, but be forewarned my bodacious business friend: the below table level world plays just as important a role in the sealing of deals. It’s a battleground down there, folks. For example, what if someone were to take a sneaky look under the table? What if an experienced businessman wanted to see how serious you were and took a looksy underneath? Specifically aiming his gaze at your socks? Yes, now, I think you get the picture. It’s war in that office. All levels count.
2) Practice your smile in the mirror before you leave the house. Ever wonder why the deals fall through at the last moment? Well, perhaps it’s because you have this bizarre habit of waking in the night and feasting on tinned mackerel, then forgetting to brush your teeth and actually bringing half a filleted fish with you into the boardroom (if this is the case then maybe you should consider a career as a fishmonger instead?)? Smile practice is also good because you can make yourself look genuine about doing a deal. Genuine is better than fake, and all good business people know how to ascertain the difference.
3) Don’t keep saying “yes” all the time, to everything that is said. This is very annoying. No less annoying, in fact, than tapping someone repeatedly on the shoulder while saying repeatedly, “am I annoying you?”
